The Opinion Festival is a meeting place for all layers of society, and gives a platform for different worldviews. Its mission is to improve debate culture and civic education. The Opinion Festival takes place on 14th and 15th August 2020 in Paide.
Anyone is welcome to submit their idea for the programme of the Opinion Festival. You may, for instance, think that a political decision requires more consideration, or an issue needs to be raised, or a question calls for more thorough discussion, or a particular perspective or new field of knowledge should be given a wider platform.
The guiding principle of the Opinion Festival 2020 is citizens rights and obligations. Especially welcomed to the programme are discussions that, in one way or another, touch this topic. The public gathering of ideas is open from January 31st till February 29th.
Submit your idea if you want to raise a question, bring opposing sides together, or introduce new knowledge or a solution. Along with specific discussion ideas, we also welcome ideas for wider fields of discussion.
Discussion ideas should have:
- clear reasoning;
- clearly worded purpose;
- discussion form that supports a meaningful exchange of ideas (more inclusive forms are rated higher);
- participants with different points of view.
The organization of a discussion is helped by:
- finding partners already during the phase of gathering ideas;
- the person submitting the idea also being the one actually organizing the discussion;
- respecting the set deadlines.
All the ideas received will be rated by the Opinion Festival’s organizational team consisting of ten members. Every discussion idea will be rated in four categories (reasoning, purpose, form of discussion, diversity of participants) and this will form the ranked list of discussion topics. After this, the ideas are divided into matching fields of discussion. Within one field of discussion there will be an average of four discussions a day. The costs associated with a field of discussion are covered by the organizers of that specific discussion.

We will be contacting anyone who submitted an idea in the end of March and will then work together to create the programme for the 2020 Opinion Festival. Our team is on hand to guide and advise on the preparation of discussions both with regard to content and technical considerations.
